Ford Escort MK1 Restoration Project

Having been used for circuit racing over a number of years this Escort shell came to us for a refresh ready for the new season. The owner himself stripped the car down of all of its mechanical components so we just had the shell to revive.

When receiving the body, it arrived from being chemically dipped and e-coated as the owner knew he'd got himself a solid shell under the paintwork, plus this way the weight of the vehicle would be kept to a minimum. We then set about the prep work, keeping one eye on the weight, we made sure every panel was as straight as possible therefore reducing the amount of filler needed for a smooth finish. New, light weight fibreglass bonnet and boot lid were added to replace the original heavy, metal presses. New door skins were also fitted.

The shell was then resprayed in Ford Diamond White plus the driver's signature offset racing stripes. The blue stripes were painted, rather than stuck on, for a more traditional feel.
